June Home Page Image

An image from the collection of the late John Higgs. Courtesy of Peter Dace.

Published: 6 June 2025

A black and white photograph showing a road junction, with a car parked at the kerb on the right hand side. The roads are bordered with grass verges, then hedgerows and fencing, and, behind these, rows of houses can be seen. Several large trees are growing on the verges. To the bottom left there is a grassed, triangular, traffic island containing a large telephone pole, a fingerpost direction sign, and other street furniture (possibly also signage). Handwritten in white at the bottom left of the photograph is Cross Roads, Cuffley, with 138331 written in white at the bottom right, and there is a black on white typed description label below the photograph.

Thank you to Peter Dace for providing this image from the collection of the late John Higgs.

The photograph shows a car driving past the junction between Station Road, Plough Hill and Northaw Road East, and was taken during the 1930’s.

A fascinating glimpse of Cuffley prior to WWII.
