KGV Refurbishment

Community Update

Published: 22 January 2026

Following the third round of public consultation carried out by Groundwork East, feedback from residents was reviewed by the KGV Working Party at their meeting on 7 January. Recommendations from the Working Party were then discussed by the Parish Council at its meeting on 14 January.

At that meeting, it was agreed to explore the following improvements to King George V Playing Fields (KGV):

  • An expanded and improved children’s play area, including safer pedestrian access to and from the play space.

We are also exploring two possible ideas for the gifted land next to the playing field (currently known as “Doris”, simply as a working name):

  • An all-weather pitch
  • A bike trail / pump track, for bikes and scooters

Both options for Doris will be developed alongside each other until it becomes clear which is the best option for the community.

Before any final decisions are made, the Parish Council will continue discussions with the other organisations involved in KGV. As the playing field is protected by Fields in Trust, any proposals must meet their requirements. We will also be speaking with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council about planning permission and possible funding options.

While we are keen to make progress, there are still several important steps to work through before any refurbishment can begin. We appreciate your patience as we carefully explore these options.

Finally, we would like to confirm that there are currently no plans to reduce the number of football pitches used by Cuffley Football Club.
